Planning Poker
Estimate Tasks Together
Take the guesswork out of planning. Team members pick a number to show how much effort they think a task will take. Then, you discuss and decide together. It’s simple, fair, and helps everyone stay on the same page.
What Are Story Points?
Story points are a way to measure the effort needed to complete a task — not in hours or days, but in relative size and complexity.
- A small task might be 1 point
- A medium task could be 3 or 5 points
- A big or uncertain task might be 8, 13, or more
Story points help teams focus on how much work something feels like, rather than how long it might take.
Why Use Planning Poker?
Planning Poker is a team-based activity for estimating tasks using story points. Here’s why teams love it:
- Everyone gets a voice – not just the loudest person
- Uncovers hidden risks or unknowns early
- Builds shared understanding of the work
- Reduces bias by letting everyone vote at the same time
- Makes planning faster and more fun
Each team member picks a card (with a number), reveals it at the same time, and then the team discusses differences until they agree on a final estimate.
🏗️ Old Way vs. Planning Poker
Traditional Estimation | Planning Poker |
Based on hours or days | Based on effort (story points) |
Often decided by one or two people | Involves the whole team |
Can lead to pressure or guesswork | Encourages discussion and clarity |
Risks underestimating complex tasks | Helps catch complexity early |
Slower and less engaging | Quick, collaborative, and fun |
Retrospective
Reflect, Learn, and Improve
At the end of each sprint or project, your team can share what worked, what didn’t, and what to do better next time. Our tool makes it easy for everyone to speak up and be heard.
